Hmmmmm...background eh? Easy peasy.
Turn on your MSN Messenger. Press Alt-F together - you will automatically be taken to a "File" drop-down menu. Look for "Tools" on the horizontal menu item bar on your right. Select that.
Under the "Tools" menu item...you will see "Backgrounds" item. Select that. You will then be shown a new menu box. Look for the title "Regular Backgrounds". See the first fishy background item underneath it? Click on the picture and then click on the button "Set default" on your right. Then click the "Close" button at the bottom.
Open any conversation window and you will have that wallpaper as your background.
